2007 Riverside Invitational Summary
Saturday, Dec 29 Games

Gm 7 Moses Lake, WA 49  Mount Tahoma, WA 52
Moses Lake (Sutherland 14, Loera 10, Montgomery 0, Hirz 2, Williamson 0, A. Noyes 6, Ballinger 0, C. Noyes 17)
Mt. Tahoma (Hunter 2, Sorrell 2, Ojeda 16, Samms 18, Magali 3, Mamea 6, Johnson 3, Scott 2)

Moses Lake worked out to a early lead before Mount Tahoma's press caught them off guard. The Thunderbirds forced a handful of turnovers in the first half with the press, but solid shooting when Moses Lake was able to break it gave the Chiefs a 27-25 lead at halftime.
Mount Tahoma's Shaunice Samms scored eight of her game-high 18 points in the third quarter as the Thunderbirds opened up a 10-point lead. Junior Carrie Ojeda added 16 for Mount Tahoma.
Moses Lake junior Carly Noyes scored 17 points for the second consecutive game, including leading a 10-3 comeback attempt in the final minutes, but the three by junior Jassity Mamea was enough to seal the win.
Junior Kelly Sutherland added 14 points for the Chiefs.

Gm 8 Snohomish, WA 57 vs.  Buena, CA 48
Snohomish (Guthrie 9, Lampman 8, Burns 15, Desmarias 3, Miller 0, Benson 14, Heard 2, Fairbanks 2, Scott 4) Buena (Mathis 7, Brooks 1, Padilla 6, Geske 16, Halpern 2, Barnes 0, Holcomb 13, Strang 3)

Junior Emily Guthrie led Snohomish to a 21-14 first quarter lead with eight of the team-high 15 points as the Panthers controlled the game's tempo for the majority of the 32 minutes. Junior Katie Benson added 14 for the Panthers, who held Buena junior Samantha Strang to just three points.
Buena was visibly tired after a physical, tough battle with Riverside Friday night, but gave a good effort in the fourth quarter, pulling the game to within 10.
Senior Mallory Geske led Buena with 16 and teammate Holly Holcomb added 13.

Gm 9 Jesuit, OR 50 vs. Lake Stevens, WA 66 (White Division Championship)
Jesuit(Brands 5, Griffin 10, Nelson 9, Dixon 0, Wilkins 0, Munk 3, Marquard 0, White 15, Brenner 6, Wellington 2, Lowe 0)  Lake Stevens (Ochiltree 25, Tri 7, Bostwick 4, Warbis 1, Goddard 2, Tate 0, Schumacher 0, Personius 19, Gallagher 8)
Lake Stevens busted out a 2-3 zone in the second quarter that equalized play and let the Vikings work on playing catch up after an early lead by Jesuit.
Then the Vikings outscored the Crusaders 18-10 in the third and then rolled in the fourth, outscoring Jesuit 23-12 to close the game and take the White Division championship.
Senior Mary Ochiltree, the White Division MVP, led her team with 25 points, while teammate Alona Personius added 19.

Gm 10 Sheldon, OR 48 vs. Auburn Riverside, WA 69 (Navy Division Championship)
Sheldon (Ward 8, King 5, Girod 0, Gray 2, Steigleman 6, Pangilinan 1, Doe 3, Hauser 0, Ta. Brown 15, Anderson 2, Th. Brown 6) Auburn Riverside (Wetmore 17, Grad 24, Hagerty 2, Jenkins 0, Jackson 8, Wofford 0, Givens 8, Raiford 0, Cooper 6, Egwuatu 4)

Auburn Riverside sailed out to a 21-6 lead at the end of the first quarter after a 13-0 run closed the final minutes.  It was the first time the Ravens came out strong to start the game since their first game at the Nike TOC.
The Ravens pressed and pressed during the game, allowing just 16 Sheldon points in the first half.
Washington State-bound Katie Grad led the charge with 24 points while sophomore Mercedes Wetmore added 17.  Sheldon's All-State player Katie Stiegleman was held to just 6 points.  Nichole Jackson and Katie Grad applied incredible pressure to make her earn even just 6 points.  It didn't help having 6'0 senior post Theresa Brown foul out late in the 3rd with only 6 points.  Give Coach Luke Roth and his staff a lot of credit for half time adjustments as they gave Riverside all they could handle.
Sheldon junior Tami Brown finished the 4th quarter with 9 of her 15 to led the Irish.

Friday, Dec 28 Games
Gm 3 Jesuit, OR 65  Mt. Tahoma, WA 55

Jesuit(Brands 4, Griffin 10, Nelson 6, Dixon 10, Munk 2, White 10, Brenner 15, Wellington 4, Lowe 4)
Mt. Tahoma (Hunter 5, Sorrell 10, Ojeda 14, Samms 11, Mamea 7, Scott 6)

Game Notes: Jesuit came out on fire hitting several shots from all over the floor.  The 6'2 freshman post (Brenner) is an incredible athlete.  She looks and plays like a junior or maybe even a senior.  She controlled a lot of inside play against one of the best athetes in the state in Samms (Mt. Tahoma).  Jesuit was in control most of the first half yet Mt. Tahoma stayed close due to their full court pressure.  Jesuit led at the half 29-27.  In the 3rd, it was Jesuit opening up a 10 point lead at 50-40.  Both teams put up 15 points in the 4th to end the ball game at 65-55 in favor of Jesuit.

Gm 4 Lake Stevens, WA 59   Moses Lake, WA 55 (2 OT)
Lake Stevens (Ochiltree 16, Tri 5, Bostwick 4, Warbis 0, Goddard 0, Tate 4, Schumacher 0, Personius 3, Gallagher 27) Moses Lake (Sutherland 3, Loera 20, Padilla 0, Montgomery 0, Hirz 2, Brischle 0, Williamson 0, Morris 0, A. Noyes 8, Ballinger 5, C. Noyes 17, Kenner 0)
Sacramento State-bound Karri Gallagher scored seven of her game-high 27 points in the second overtime to carry Lake Stevens to the win.
Moses Lake rallied back from a 19-point deficit early in the third quarter to take a 46-45 lead in the fourth and tie the game at 50 at the end of regulation.
Both teams scored just two points in the first overtime as junior Carly Noyes fouled out in the final minute. Lake Stevens senior Mary Ochiltree fouled out to start the second overtime, leaving the game to her teammates.
Freshman Jordan Loera led the Chiefs with 20 points and Noyes scored 17. Ochiltree added 16 for the Vikings.
Lake Stevens shot 11-of-30 from the line in the game, although Gallagher hit the majority of them, going 9-of-12. Moses Lake was 6-of-17 from the line.
As of haltime, Carly Noyes picked up 2 fouls in the 1st quarter and sat the rest of the half.  Mary Ochiltree is playing well.  Lake Stevens is sitting in a zone and while Moses Lake cannot get anything going on offense.

Gm 5 Sheldon, OR 47   Snohomish, WA 44
Snohomish (Guthrie 3, Schmitt 0, Lampman 16, Burns 4, Desmarias 0, Miller 0, Berg 0, Benson 13, Heard 4, Fairbanks 0, Scott 4) Sheldon (Ward 8, King 2, Girod 0, Gray 0, Stiegleman 9, Pangilinan 0, Doe 4, Hauser 2, Ta. Brown 6, Anderson 0, Th. Brown 16)
Sheldon took a one-point halftime lead into the third quarter and went on a 12-2 run to open the second half.
The fourth-place 6A Oregon squad forced five consecutive turnovers by Snohomish during the run, picking off passes and forcing mistakes.
The Panthers didn't give up easy though, running the game to 44-all with less than two minutes to go on a three by junior Emily Guthrie.
On the next possession, senior Katie Stiegleman hit a three of her own and what would be the final points of the game.
Senior Theresa Brown led Sheldon with 16 points, while junior Karley Lampman had 16 for Snohomish. Panther junior Katie Benson was the only other player in double digits with 13 points.

Gm 6 Buena, CA 60   vs.  Auburn Riverside, WA 74
Buena (Mathis 13, Brooks 2, Padilla 14, Geske 7, Halpern 4, Barnes 4, Holcomb 4, Strang 12) Auburn Riverside (Wetmore 13, Grad 13, Hagerty 5, Jenkins 11, Jackson 11, Wofford 4, Givens 3, Raiford 0, Cooper 4, Egwuatu 9)

Thursday, Dec 27 Games
Gm 1 Jesuit, OR 54 Buena, CA 53
Jesuit (Griffin 8, Nelson 8, Dixon 8, Munk 4, White 20, Brenner 4, Lowe 2)
Buena (Mathis 14, Brooks 4, Padilla 10, Halpern 2, Barnes 4, Holcomb 4, Strang 14)

Game Notes: Buena came out with an uptempo style that caused Jesuit a lot of trouble.  Buena's 5'4 guard Amelia Mathis used speed and handles to give Buena a 27-15 lead at the half.  Mid way through the 3rd quarter Buena had a comfortable 19 point lead.  Jesuit turned to it's full court press that caused Buena some problems.  The Crusaders, (Portland Oregon) started pushing the ball and creating steals for easy buckets.  Jesuit finally took their first lead with less than 20 seconds to go and held on for the win.

Gm 2 Sheldon, OR 50 Moses Lake, WA 47
Sheldon (Ward 5, King 8, Stiegleman 24, Brown Ta 4, Anderson 2, Brown Th 7
Moses Lake(Sutherland 11, Loera 10, Noyes A 2, Rallinger 2, Noyes 22)

Game Notes: Both teams came out executing half court sets to start the game.  Moses Lake had 6'5 Carly Noyes and a freshman PG in Jordan Loera while Sheldon had senior guard Katie Stiegleman and 6'0 post Theresa Brown.  Sheldon got the early lead 16-9 after one.  The second quarter was Moses Lake outscoring Sheldon 14-5, giving up only 2 field goals.  Halftime score had Moses Lake up 23-21.  In the 3rd quarter, Stiegleman caught fire hitting 5 field goals for 11 points.  Sheldon outscored Moses Lake 19-11 through the third.  In the final quarter of the game, Sheldon had a 10 point lead and was trimmed to 1 with a Loera lay-in.  Sophomore PG Taylor Ward hit 2 huge free throws in the last 30 seconds to get the 50-47 win for Sheldon.
